crowning glories
Crowns, veils, and installations that look at lost species. The crowns are wearable scale. Each piece comprises stitched, simple line drawings in thread of endangered or extinct species of plants, animals, or insects. They are my personal exploration into the damage we do to our surroundings. In some ways these are quite literal portraits, as hair is a direct, physical record of a person. Subverting the symbol of power and/or achievement, the crowns question the notion of self in relation to other beings that are affected by an individual's choices. How, really, do we decide our greatest achievements, or most notable aspects? In some funny way, they also express my frustration with notions of beauty.
